🧩🖊️🌳

This week we are stopping to consider just what exactly has happened here.

Dear Agency Founder has been going since September 2024 without missing a week and it’s time to let you in on the secret.

I didn’t have a plan, I only had a routine.

Some more on that in a moment…

But first

One of the things I get asked the most is for an archive of my past posts.

I’m flirting with having a website, but in the meantime I’ve created a way for you to get all the best advice in one place.

An e-book pretentiously titled*“Selected Newsletters Vol 1”*.

It’s 12 editions covering everything from growth to sales, reputation building to org structure, positioning to profitability, and the tricky bits in between.

It’s yours for free if you share it (or you can choose your price).

It’s pay what you like because you may have been subscribed for a while and have all these already, or this might be 12 brand new and valuable pieces of wisdom for you.

I’d rather you shared it.

I’m also looking to reach more people and the book is designed to introduce people to my writing. So if you know any individuals or communities that would enjoy this content then take one for free and share some copies.

How the sausage is made

Back to that routine.

My writing started to scratch an itch. I loved making sense of the way my agency worked and understanding the different levers we could pull.

I’ve always enjoyed this kind of thing. I used to play a lot of simulation games (shout out Theme Hospital fans). Sometimes business was like that. Only less stressful.

So I had a load of things I wanted to think through and share.

I don’t have a lot of free time (because children) but I heard about a thing called the “5am club” from my wife’s Instagram.

It sounded terrifying.

I did, however, realise that if I wanted to write anything it was probably going to be first thing. So I invented the 5:45am club (trademarked 🤞) and started spending 30 mins a day, typing away, drinking tea and bouncing ideas off the cat.

The other time I get to myself is when I’m in the car so I started dictating while on the move. Driving around yelling things about growth at my phone, like one of those angry cab driver YouTubers.

The next day I work my way through the transcript and organise it.

The most interesting stuff makes its way to my audience.

Ta-da!

What’s next?

Well I’m not short of ideas and words and I’m interested in trying some new formats.

  • There will be no in-car livestreams but some video/audio is on the cards.
  • There are some deeper dives in the works into things like financial models, hiring amazing people and my approach to marketing and sales.
  • I also want to find a place for the thoughts that have value but don’t end up being the right shape for regular content. The cutting room floor is littered with good stuff.

Thank you

Lastly, thanks for all the kind replies and nice words, and especially the questions. It’s just me and my inbox so get in touch!
